I’m not naturally drawn to vegan food. I like flavour, I like comfort, and I don’t believe in forcing something just because it’s “better.” But I’m also at a point where I might need to open a restaurant, and if that happens, it will most likely be vegetarian. So I’m experimenting.
Julius isn’t one of those traditional chefs with a long Michelin background. He’s part of a newer generation. A food creator who built his following by simplifying recipes and making them accessible. His focus is very clear. Take dishes people already love and show how they can exist in a plant-based way without losing the point. That’s also why this book works.
It doesn’t feel like a lecture. It feels practical. Comfort food from around the world, just rethought slightly. Nothing too complicated, nothing too precious.
And that’s where it gets interesting. Because when you really think about it, most comfort food is already vegetarian. Mashed potatoes. Pizza Margherita. French fries. The things we reach for without thinking twice. No one questions them, and no one feels like they’re missing out.
So maybe it’s not about vegan or not vegan. Maybe it’s just about good food, done well.
Some of the recipes surprised me. In a good way. I’m not converted. Not yet.
But it’s an experiment worth considering.

What started quietly has turned into something quite special.
The opening in Penang was a real moment. Full, warm, and alive in the way you hope an exhibition will be. We were honoured to have Rebecca Owen with us, and endlessly grateful to Narelle McMurtry for opening her space and making this possible.
This exhibition is a return to something very simple. Looking closely. Really closely.
Herbs, often overlooked, suddenly become the centre of attention. Enlarged, reworked, and reassembled into something that feels both familiar and completely new.
From this body of work, we are releasing three limited edition fine art prints.
The largest, Buah Keras (candle nut), holds two flowers and anchors the collection.
Then Jintan Manis, more delicate, more intricate.
And finally, Daun Kari (curry leaf). Very grounded. Very honest. And quietly strong. One of our favourites.
Each print is available in A2, A3, and A4.
Framed and unframed options are available.
All prints are produced on Hahnemühle German Etching paper with deckled edges. A paper with weight, texture, and presence. It holds the work in the way it should be held.
We are keeping this tight.
Only eight prints per design.
This is not something we will repeat.
All works are currently visible in Penang, with a delivery time of approximately two weeks.
Alongside the exhibition, we took the team up for what became our “art weekend.”
A pottery class, long meals, too much laughter, and just enough chaos. The kind of time that reminds you why you do any of this in the first place.

There’s a quiet strength there. Not loud, not dramatic. Just acceptance.
Life gives you what it gives you. Anger doesn’t change it. Fighting it doesn’t fix it. At some point, you learn to work with it, not against it.
And that’s where something else begins… we’ve always believed in not doing ordinary. Not following rules just because they exist. Not fitting in for the sake of it. This campaign sits right there. Because being different is not something to hide. It’s something to understand. To recognise. To stand beside.
Even people like us, slightly out of place, slightly outside the lines, know what that feels like. And maybe that’s why this matters.
I’m deeply grateful to have met Iman and his family. And grateful that we can play a small part in something bigger. In creating awareness. In shifting how people see.
Because we don’t talk about this enough. And when we don’t, people get left out. Misunderstood. Pushed aside.
This is about changing that, even if only in a small way.

We were deeply inspired by his journey and the strength of his family. It reminded us that real impact often begins at home, with patience, resilience, and love.
At NALA, we don’t do ordinary. We don’t follow trends, we don’t design by demand, and we don’t create to fit in. We choose our own path, guided by instinct, emotion, and meaning. At the centre of this design is the imperfect ginkgo. A symbol of resilience and quiet strength, it is intentionally asymmetrical. No two leaves are the same. In the same way, every mind has its own rhythm, its own way of seeing the world.
