“Unagi” and memorable encounter

Where ghosts brew and birds sing

Meeting Thomas in person finally confirmed that Ghost Bird offers far more than just exceptional coffee and design, revealing a vibrant community-driven experience that I highly recommend you visit.

I discovered Ghost Bird Coffee Company at the Good Coffee Festival at The Campus, where I met Thomas, its founder, for the first time. He had reached out to us a long while ago, and finally meeting him in person was such a nice surprise.

The coffee is simply amazing, home-grown, home-roasted and presented in packaging that is just as thoughtful as the taste itself. Beyond the coffee, Thomas has built an incredible community around his roastery, one that brings people together through passion, design and craft.

I can highly recommend a visit to the Ghost Bird roastery in Kuala Lumpur. Go for the coffee, and you will stay for the community.

Masak with Miwa

Experiencing Miwa’s cooking workshop was a soulful blend of family connection and intentional design—made even sweeter by seeing Nala in her home—and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking good energy.

One of our favourite family moments in KL — learning how to cook salmon rice with crispy veggies at @masakwithmiwa.

Her workshops are calm, beautiful, and full of heart. Every chop, every stir feels intentional. And her home? Filled with NALA — of course. Her husband @ifzan.ibrahim runs Saudagar General Store, and creates the most stunning floral arrangements — true everyday art.

Highly recommend this for anyone who loves good food, good energy, and good design.

The most beautiful book I haven’t cook from

Even as a vegetarian, I treasure this book as a masterclass in design thinking because it proves that true innovation comes from the courage to radically reimagine the familiar.

Fish Butchery by Josh Niland

A gift from my sister that’s been sitting on my shelf like a piece of art — Fish Butchery is not just a cookbook. It’s a masterclass in creativity, sustainability, and radical design thinking.

Written by Josh Niland, this award-winning book reimagines fish the way butchers treat meat — from fish sausages to pâtés, mortadella to bone broths — using every part of the catch, with zero waste and maximum beauty.

As a vegetarian, I haven’t cooked from it yet. But this book inspires me deeply — proof that innovation starts when you dare to look differently at what’s right in front of you.

I am overflowing with pride to share my aunt’s stunning new book, which stands as a beautiful testament to her lifetime of innovation and mastery in textile design.

It’s not every day that your aunt publishes a book that feels like a personal design archive. Liset van der Scheer—yes, almost the same name as mine—has released Fascination | Textile, a stunning tribute to a lifetime of textile and carpet design. This book is more than just beautiful; it’s a window into the world of form, fiber, and feeling. Each page tells the story of colours woven with care, patterns that speak, and decades of devotion to craft.

Over her 45-year career, Liset developed a wide range of new industrial methods and applications. She achieved this by deconstructing existing techniques and then adapting them to suit her own needs. She created designs, yarns, structures, colour series, and products for clients such as Van Besouw, Casalis, Danskina, and De Ploeg, as well as textiles for her own label, TeTTeX. In 2005, she won a Dutch Design Award for her collection of knitted bathroom textiles. In 2022, she launched the website to share her expertise. Fascination | Textile is an extensive and enriched compilation of all that knowledge.

I’m proud beyond words. It’s inspiring, elegant, and deeply personal.
